Nursery

 

 

 

 

 

Maths: Number recognition and ordering to 10 & beyond.  Use a dice and match the number to the correct number of objects. Count anything such as teabags, pairs of socks, counters etc.  Use numbers from 2-10 from a pack of cards to play snap or other games.  Look around the house to find 2D & 3D shapes.

Topic: Growth.  Grow some cress seeds and use a diary to observe how long it takes to grow.  Observe nature and spring in your garden.

English: Continue to help your child write their name and concentrate on a good pencil grip & correct letter formation. Revise letter sounds: s, a, t, p.  The next two letter sounds to learn are: i & n.

Play games such as I Spy, or help your child think of something beginning with one of the letter sounds, and then get them to draw a picture.

Listen to nursery rhymes, well-known stories, letter and number songs on YouTube.

- Write a set of instructions for playing your favourite game
- Follow a set of instructions to make something
- Practise using time connectives (First, then, next, after, finally, now etc…) when writing or giving instructions
- Write sentences using full stops and capital letters
- Write a set of questions to ask your family. Remember to use a question mark.

- Practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s
- Find one more and one less than a number
- Make different money totals
- Play ‘shops’ and practise giving change
- Create a ‘spending diary’ and track the money you spend. Help a grown up to track their money too!

Science
- Name and describe the four seasons
- Design an outfit for each season
- List adjectives associated with each season
- Think about the season your birthday is in
- What is the weather like in each season?
- What is the difference between weather and climate?
- Choose a country and find out what the weather is like there
- Find out about day length and how it changes throughout the year
- What are shadows? How are they formed?

History
- Make a list of your favourite toys
- Look carefully at the materials each toy is made from
- Become a toymaker! Design and label your own toy - include as much information as possible about it
- Create a poster to advertise your brand new toy

Art
Find out what ‘fabric resist’ is and create your own on squares of white cotton.

Phonics
- Complete pages from Phonics workbook daily
- Continue to learn the sounds on your phase 5 mat
- Create your own aliens with alien words using your sound mat
- Practise reading and writing tricky words (YouTube has some very catchy songs!)

- Continue to practise addition and subtraction strategies and simple multiplication and division.
- Problem solving using the 4 operations.
English
- Grammar: suffix words and how a suffix changes the meaning of the words.
- Different types of sentences: command, question, exclamation and statement.
- We were due to write a newspaper report on Finding Tutankhamun's Treasure using this template. We have done lots of prior research for this. Children could be reminded of the features of a newspaper.
- Reading comprehension
Topic
- Ancient Egyptians: pyramids, mummies, pharaohs, temples and ancient numbers.
Science
- Healthy Eating: revise different food groups and plan and draw a healthy meal.
Art
- Copy Egyptian art
- Collage work using recycled materials

- Write a fact file about a Roman god or goddess
- Create a comic strip about Boudicca and the Romans
- Write a dialogue between Boudicca and a Roman emperor using speech punctuation (inverted commas, commas, question and exclamation marks, full stops)

- Practise times tables facts to 10 - time yourself
- Divide two-digit numbers using number line (chunking), i.e. 63 / 3 = _ (jumping in 3s from 0 to 63)
- Continue to use column addition and subtraction to solve problems, i.e. missing numbers in calculations
- Practise telling the time - full hour, half past, quarter past and quarter to; 5, 10, etc. minutes past and to an hour
- Convert between analogue and 12-hour digital clocks

Geography
Research facts about Japan.
Create a booklet including these aspects:
- position on the world map, large cities, mountains, rivers
- culture: food, clothing, festivals
- famous landmarks
- famous people
- art
- religion
- language
Find origami instructions and make something out of paper.

Science
- draw and label parts of a plant
- draw and label parts of a flower
- research what photosynthesis is and create a poster with diagrams to explain the process

Art
- make a collage of your favourite plant, i.e. Van Gogh’s Sunflowers
- use coloured paper or tissue paper to make a flower
